Hi, friend. I appreciate you reading and sharing a thought. I’m actually working on a framework to better flesh out self-care in ways that I think avoid the potential conflation into something like selfishness…but I suppose you’re probably onto something about how taking care of your self can be coded as selfish, especially for women, who are often raised up to care for everyone else. I don’t buy into that much either, really, and if it is true, then so be it! People may say I’m selfish, but this self is happier, healthier, more at peace, and equipped to be present for others than ever before. If that’s what comes of self(ish)-care, then I wish everyone could be so tuned in.
